Cannonway Awarded Contract On Major PNG LNG Project in Papua New Guinea


Cannonway Consultants, one of Hong Kong’s leading consultants to the construction industry, has been awarded a contract to provide contractual, commercial and quantity surveying services on an EPC contract in Papua New Guinea.

Our client, the Main Contractor Joint Venture, consisting of two of Japan's leading engineering and construction firms, have been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction contract by Esso Highlands Limited, operator of the PNG LNG Project.

The PNG LNG Project is an integrated development that includes gas production and processing facilities, onshore and offshore pipelines and liquefaction facilities. Participating interests are affiliates of Exxon Mobil Corporation (including Esso Highlands Limited as operator, 33.2 percent), Oil Search Limited (29.0 percent), Independent Public Business Corporation (PNG Government, 16.6 percent), Santos Limited (13.5 percent), Nippon Oil Exploration (4.7 percent), Mineral Resources Development Company (PNG landowners, 2.8 percent) and Petromin PNG Holdings Limited (0.2 percent).

This major project is for production of a 6.6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) LNG plant, with two 3.3 million trains, including facilities for inlet processing, treating, liquefaction, storage, and loading. It is estimated that at the peak of the construction the employment levels for the plant construction will be in the region of 8500 workers, providing a significant boost for the local economy.

Cannonway has been contracted to provide full subcontracts administration services to the JV’s Project Management Team from drawing up contracts and bid management, right through the currency of the project, continuing a trend of an increasing number of companies who are relying on Cannonway to provide both contractual and construction industry expertise to manage the complex contractual administration of construction projects, and to deal with issues between the parties as they arise. This minimizes risk and assists our clients in achieving the best financial outcome to the project.
