PRC: Proposed Amendments to Energy Conservation Law
China enacted the Energy Conservation Law in 1997 to govern the use of energy
resources, promote energy saving and protect the environment.
To further reduce the use of energy, the National People’s Congress in June 2007
began deliberating draft amendments to the Law. The proposed amendments are
extensive. In particular, they set out regulations to reduce energy consumption
in various sectors including construction projects, the transportation sector
and in government buildings. They also deal with measures to improve energy
efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
